This is a poster, designed by the Israeli designer Dan Reisinger, celebrating the signing of the Israel-Jordan Peace Treaty on October 26, 1994. At the top of the poster are two doves, one blue and one green, facing each other. The blue dove’s eye is a blue Star of David from the Israeli flag, and the green dove’s eye is a red seven-pointed star from the Jordanian flag. The event and the date are written in small print across the middle of the poster. Beneath the heading is a photograph of the signing that took place in Israel’s Arava valley, north of Eilat and near the Jordanian border. Seated at the table are (from left to right): Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, US President Bill Clinton, and Jordanian Prime Minister Abdelsalam al-Majali. The head of the Israeli delegation, Elyakim Rubenstein, is presenting the document to Rabin to sign, while al-Majali has also been presented the document by his aide. Clinton is sitting in the middle observing the signing. Among those standing behind the table are US Secretary of State Warren Christopher, King Hussein of Jordan, Israeli President Ezer Weizman, Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres, and the Russian Foreign Minister Andrey Kozyrev. The fact that one of the men is wearing a hat and many others are wearing sunglasses is due to the fact that the ceremony took place on a hot sunny day in the Arava desert. Behind the people are the flags of the United States, Jordan, and Israel. Beneath the photograph is a quote from Israel’s Declaration of Independence: “We extend our hand to peace and good neighbourliness.”

Israel-Jordan Peace Treaty of 1994 – For many years, secret and personal contacts were held between the Kingdom of Jordan and the leaders of the State of Israel. However, it was only in 1994, after the Oslo Accords, that Israel and Jordan declared an end to the state of belligerency between the two countries. After less than a year of negotiations between the parties, the peace treaty between Israel and Jordan was signed in the presence of US President Bill Clinton. The agreement stipulates that the border between the two states be determined according to the borders set during the British Mandate period and the geographical conditions in the area. The water distribution of the Jordan River, the Yarmuk River, and the Arava groundwater was also regulated and economic cooperation between the two countries agreed upon. At the signing ceremony of the agreement in the Arava, both sides stressed the aspiration to “a just, lasting and comprehensive peace in the Middle East...based on freedom, equality, justice and respect for basic human rights,” a peace that guarantees the right and duty of both states to “live in peace with one another...within secure and recognized borders,” develop “friendly relations and cooperation” and ensure “sustainable security" for both countries. Following the peace treaty between Israel and Jordan, more detailed agreements were signed, most dealing with issues related to economic cooperation between the two countries.
Dan Reisinger – Dan Reisinger is an Israeli graphic designer. Born in Serbia in 1934, Reisinger was hidden during the Holocaust and was one of the few survivors in his family. Following his father’s death in the Holocaust, Reisinger’s mother remarried and the family moved to Israel in 1949. Reisinger studied painting, sculpture, and poster design at the Bezalel Academy of Art in Jerusalem, where he graduated with distinction. He served in the Israel Air Force as head of the publications department. In addition to his work designing posters and stage sets, Reisinger has designed logos for several Israeli companies including El Al, Yad Vashem, and the Maccabiah Games.
