The Ministry of Education (Department of Music and Jewish Cultural Heritage) recently published a second book in the series entitled "Songs and Roots" collected from the wealth of piyutim (liturgical poems) of Jewish communities. The book is accompanied by a CD and is intended for teaching Jewish musical heritage in the school system. It includes piyutim from the German-Polish, Hassidic, Yemenite, Italian, Libyan, Indian (Bombay) and Bukharan liturgical traditions. The booklet is written for students and includes explanations and assignments, as well as the musical notes for select piyutim. Some of the piyutim were taken from the National Sound Archives in the Music Department of the National Library.
