A new CD premieres works by the Jewish German composer Friedrich Gernsheim
(1839-1916). The CD, titled "Gernshein Violin Sonatas First Recordings", features performances by the violinist and pianist brothers, Stefan and Andrea Krippel. A collaboration between the CD's producer, Christian Starke, and the Music Department at the National Library, where Gernsheim's works are stored, led to the recording of the work "Andante". The notes for the piece were taken from the composer's own manuscript.
Gernsheim was active during the latter part of the 19th century and was close to the most prominent composers of his generation – Johannes Brahms, Felix Mendelssohn, Max Bruch, and Hermann Levi.
Among the works featured on the CD: Violin Sonata No. 1 in C Minor Opus 4, Violin Sonata No. 2 in C Major Opus 50, and the work Fantasiestuck. The CD was released in Germany by BRILLIANT ASSICS.
