A 20-volume translation of the Talmud Bavli in Arabic acquired
The National Library of Israel announces an exciting and intriguing new acquisition: a 20-volume translation of the Talmud Bavli in Arabic.
The new translation was published this March in Amman, Jordan, by the Middle East Studies Center
, following a six-year project carried out by a large team of almost one hundred scholars, translators and editors.
The project's leaders write, in a long introduction to the project and its methods, that they carried out the ambitious effort in order to render Judaism's most important legal source (following the Torah) accessible to hundreds, if not thousands, of religious studies scholars and Islamic law scholars across the Arab world.
