Beth ElohimCharleston, South CarolinaFounded in 1749 by Jews who began to settle here late in the 1600's, the congregation was the birthplace of Refom Judaism in America in 1824. The present temple was built in 1840 and is the oldest U.S. Synagogue in continuous use. The congregation has been designated a National Historic Landmark.
