They are standing outside in the stony ground, probably next to their teaching place. They are traditionally dressed with tunics and are recognizable by their traditional Kippah (Jewish skullcap) and their payot (long side curls in hair); Yemenite Jews often sport payot and refer to them as signs (Simanim in Hebrew) which differentiated them from Yemenite Muslims.
