Text on the back -[stamped] Feier zum 100 geburtstag von Dr. Theodor Herzl 1860-1960 Basel 15 Mai 1960;Back Printed Text Translation - Celebration of Herzl's 100th birthday;Production period - ca. 1910;Front Period - ca. 1910;Category - uncataloged;Description - This horizontal postcard depicts a drawing of the planet earth surrounded by a fish. In the center of the image is the globe of planet earth hovering in the cloudy sky. On the surface on the earth altitudes are marked and continents are drawn in yellow. Tiny black steam ships are placed between the continents (perhaps across the Atlantic ocean). Around the planet a long, grey, scaly fish is wrapped, it's tail held in it's mouth. At the bottom of the image the words דער לויתן are written in Yiddish. The picture is seemingly a reference to the Biblical leviathan, a legendary giant fish that serves witness to God's ability. At the top of the postcard appear the words לשנה טובה תכתבו A happy new year.;Stamp Origin - Switzerland (Country);Post office marks Origin - Switzerland (Country), Basel (City)
