The 'Rabb' refers to Rabbi Ephraim Enkaoua who settled in Tlemcen, after he had escaped from the Inquisition. A great doctor, he was received by the Sultan Abou Tafachin and cured his daughter, renowned as incurable. To thank him, the Sultan accorded him to take the Jewish community back to the center of the city (the community lived beforehand in the desert between Agadir and Tlemcen). The Rabbi obtained also the permission to built a Synagogue, the Synagogue of the Rabb. The postcard depicts the Synagogue interior: we can see the narrow prayer room with the raised Tevah in its center (the elevated area in a Synagogue which is intended to serve for the Torah reading service). On both sides, there are some benches intended for the audience. The interior is decorated with several chandeliers. [S.H] &nbs
