Front Text - Edition Chazaud, Oran 5 ORAN.;Front Text Translation - Edition Chazaud, Oran 5 ORAN.;Text on the back -Carte Postale:Correspondance - Adresse Lévy Fils et Cie, Paris-Versailles;Production period - beginning of the 20th century;Front Period - beginning of the 20th century;Category - Synagogues;Description - This vertical postcard depicts a photograph of the interior of the Great Synagogue of Oran (called also the Israelite Temple; For more precisions, see postcard hof10-0242). The picture shows more precisely a raised pulpit, situated on the right side of the prayer room, intended to the celebrant. It maybe served as Tevah (raised platform in a Synagogue where the service is lead and the Torah read), although there is already a main Tevah in the center of the prayer room. We could suggest that the main Tevah was maybe used on Shabbat (day of rest in Judaism) and Jewish Holidays while the secondary Tevah was used during the week. The raised pulpit overhangs several rows of benches intended to the audience.
