In 1858 a group of Jewish peple formalized a congregation. In 1882 due to outgrowth in the population the congregation organized under the name Hebrew Congregation. The congregation was a reform congregation. Their first synagogue was dedicated in 1891 under the name Temple Israel. The synagogue showing in this postcard is their current synagogue at 540 South Sixth Street. It was built in 1910 in neo-clasical style. In 1935 the Reforms and the Orthodox merged administratively and became the United Temple later changed to United Hebrew Congregation.[E. B.];Back Description - A devided back.
