מודעה עירונית מס' 36 שפורסמה בשנת 1933. על המודעה חתום ראש מועצת העיר מאיר דיזינגוף, המבקש מתושבי העיר להימנע מחילול שבת בפרהסיה ולשמור על הצביון של תל אביב כעיר עברית טהורה.
לפי המודעה חילול השבת בעיר איננו פוגע רק בחרדים אלא מכאיב לכל מי שתל אביב יקרה לו. המודעה מבקשת מן התושבים לכבד את השבת גם ללא פיקוח של המשטרה. כבוד השבת יתבטא בכך שאוטובוסים ציבוריים לא ייכנסו לעיר בשבתות ובחגים, וכל החנויות ובתי השעשועים יהיו סגורים מערב שבת ועד צאתה. המודעה גם פונה אל תושבי העיר הלא־יהודים בבקשה להימנע מנסיעה באוטומובילים ואופנועים ליד בתי הכנסת בשעת התפילה. סגנון המודעה הוא של התחשבות ברגשות ולא איומים בקנסות, כפייה או אלימות.
נושא שמירת השבת בעיר תל אביב היה נתון במחלוקת מאז הקמתה. בשנת 1910 התלונן הרב אברהם יצחק הכוהן קוק, אז רבה של יפו, על שהדיליז'נס נסע בין תל אביב ליפו בשבת. ועד העיר החליט שלא לחוקק חוקים שיחייבו שמירת שבת בעיר, אך כן לסגור את שער הרכבת ברחוב הרצל בשבת כדי למנוע כניסת כלי רכב.
"מלחמות השבת" בעיר שבו להעסיק את תושבי העיר, ומודעה זו היא דוגמה לסערה שפרצה בנושא בשנת 1933. המודעה גררה גל של תגובות חריפות ומהומות, אך בסופו של דבר נרגעו הרוחות.
מעניין שסוגיית שמירת השבת העסיקה את היישוב היהודי עוד לפני קום המדינה. בימי המנדט הבריטי הוסכם שלא להפעיל תחבורה ציבורית בשבתות ובחגים בערים היהודיות, כולל חלקה היהודי של ירושלים, אבל לאפשר את המשך הפעלתה בעיר חיפה. במסגרת הסכמים מקומיים הוכרה זכותו של הציבור החרדי למנוע כניסת כלי רכב לשכונות מגורים חרדיות.
