Despite the fact that this ketubah was printed after the establishment of the State of Israel, it still continues the tradition of Jerusalem ketubot wherein the Temple and the holy sites of Eretz Yisrael are depicted.
This ketubah form was created under the auspices of the Rabbinate and the Jerusalem Religious Council, and was given to couples who registered for weddings in Jerusalem and its surrounding areas during those years.
The longing for the Holy City is expressed here in the quotation at the top of the ketubah, as was seen in Italian ketubot from the 17th century: "If I set not Jerusalem above my chiefest joy" (Psalms 137: 6). Under this appears a large, authentic picture of the Western Wall, accompanied by images worshipers praying toward the holy site which was not in Israeli hands at that time.
In the right-hand frame there is another reference to Jerusalem in the context of marriage: "Once again in the cities of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem shall be heard the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride" (cf. Jeremiah 32: 11).
