One hundred years ago, in 1913, a battle for the language of instruction in the soon to be opened Technikum (today the Technion in Haifa), broke out in the Hebrew Yishuv in Eretz Yisrael. The battle became known as the "War of the Languages".
Below is a model lesson and worksheet for the analysis of an original poster that was distributed during the "War of the Languages" by "The Committee for the Reinforcement of Hebrew Education in Eretz Yisrael".
Via their research and analysis of the poster, the students will come to understand the essence of "The War of the Languages". They will deal with the various arguments and give their opinions regarding the status of the Hebrew language both a century ago and today.
The model lesson includes historical background on "The War of the Languages", a worksheet and discussion points for the classroom.
