Search Tips

  • This section refers to searches performed within the text of the newspapers, not those performed within the general text of the website.
If your search produced no results whatsoever, it may be because of changes in spelling or terminology of which you are not aware. For more information, click here.
    • The search engine is not case-sensitive, so it is recommended to always search in lower-case letters.

    • Entering a keyword with an accent mark will produce search results for the same word without the accent mark as well. Thus, for example, a search for the word "Israël" will produce search results for both articles in which the word appears with the accent mark and articles in which the word appears without the accent mark ("Israel").

    • Searching for two or more words will return articles in which those two or more words occur at least once.

    • Searching for two or more words within quotation marks will return articles in which that combination of words appears in the exact same order. For example: "Eretz Yisrael"

    • Please note: Entering keywords or phrases in quotation marks must be done with double quotation marks ("), not single quotation marks ('). Example: Correct - "Eretz Israel"; Incorrect - 'Eretz Israel'

    • Boolean Search:
      • Using the word "and" between two or more words will return articles in which those two or more words appear (not necessarily adjacent).
      • Using the word "or" between two or more words will return articles in which at least one of those words appears.

    • Using the asterisk symbol at the beginning of a sought-after keyword will return all search results that end with that keyword. For example, searching for the keyword *boim will return articles in which words ending in "boim" appear, such as: Sighelboim, Shawalboim, Zigelboim, as well as the word Boim itself.

    • Using the asterisk symbol at the end of a sought-after keyword will return all search results that begin with that keyword. For example, searching for the keyword gold* will return articles in which words beginning in "gold" appear, such as: Goldwyn, Goldbart, Goldstein, as well as the word Gold itself.

    • The search engine does not perform searches for extremely common words like "all" or "the".

    • You may limit your search by date. For more information on how to do this, click here.

    • You may narrow your search according to the type of information you desire (article, picture, or advertisement). For more information on how to do this, click here.
