Sonata of Light

Sonata no. 1 for Violin and Piano, 2009 (publisher:IMC 2009)

This piece was inspired by the sense of divinity, light and joy that the  composer found in her studies of Jewish kabbalah. At the time, Rachel Galinne was also influenced by the works of Messiaen, inspired by his Christian faith. Messiaen's contemporary mysticism merges in the first movement of the work with a clear and translucent C major by the composer. The second, slow movement begins with a kind of chorale that undergoes  metamorphoses. In the third and concluding movement a spritely and joyful fugue is played, built out of Israeli-modal materials.

The sonata of Light  was premiered by Vera Vaidman and Emanuel Krasovsky in Israel and shortly thereafter performed in Sweden by Semmy Stahlhammer and Georg Öquist.

The work is included in the CD "Kol Kore Bamidbar - A Voice Crieth in the Wilderness", 2011.
