About The Israeli Internet Archive

The Israeli Internet Archive is intended to preserve online publications published on Israeli websites for coming generations, just as books and other printed material are preserved.

In recent years the internet has become a central arena for Israeli culture, a place where a large number of written and visual materials are published. The materials that are published in the virtual world are an important part of the cultural life of the State of Israel and Israeli public discourse, and it is the Library's duty to be concerned with their preservation for researchers, students and all those who are interested- today and in the future.

At this stage, the National Library will copy and preserve Israeli websites that are listed under the ending *.il, and some additional websites that are under Israeli geolocation or relevant to the Israeli public.

This is relevant only to public websites. The project began in September 2013 and will copy many thousands of websites.

Any change in policy regarding the Internet Archive will be accompanied by a notice to be published on the National Library website.

Israel Internet Archive is made available to the public according to The National Library Regulations (Public Access for Preservation Purposes to Internet Sites and the Works Displayed Therein) 5769-2018

The content of the Israel Internet Archive has been copied from internet sites for the purpose of preservation and provision of public access thereto. This content may be subject to copyright restrictions.​

Any use of the materials from the Israel Internet Archive is the sole responsibility of the user and subject to applicable law.

All of the following are prohibited unless permitted by the copyright owner or permitted by applicable law: Reproduction, publication, distribution, public performance, broadcasting, dissemination via the internet or by any other means, and creating a derivative work of the item (for example, translation, modification or adaptation) in any form or by any means, including digital or analog media.

These terms of use do not prevent the user from making any permitted uses as defined in the Israeli Copyright Law (5768-2007), such as “fair use”.

In addition, the use of the materials may by subject the author's moral rights including the obligation to give proper credit to the author and specifying the name(s) of the creator(s) when making use of their work. It is forbidden to harm the author’s honor or reputation by means of altering the item or damaging the integrity of the item.
