Detailed description
גלויה ובה שני תצלומי דיוקן של אליעזר בן יהודה, הוצאת של"ג, ירושלים.
הדיוקן בצד שמאל צולם בשנת תרמ"ה (1885), והדיוקן בצד ימין כעבור 25 שנה בשנת תר"ע (1910). על הגלויה חתימה של בן יהודה וברקע ספרים, בקבוק דיו ונוצה – חפצים המייצגים את עולמו של בן יהודה.
אליעזר בן יהודה, שתרם רבות להתחדשות השפה העברית, עלה לארץ ישראל עם רעייתו דבורה בשנת 1881 והתיישב בירושלים. הוא כתב ספרים, ערך עיתונים, חיבר מילון וחידש מילים בשפה העברית. המילון העברי שחיבר אליעזר בן יהודה הוא מפעלו הגדול ביותר. בן יהודה אסף, ליקט ושימר רבבות מילים ומונחים מקוריים, ואת החסר מילא בחידושים משלו.
