 Renovation of the General Reading Room service desk

From Tuesday to Thursday Nov. 13th-15th the electricity and network infrastructure in the service desk will be replaced​. During these days services will be provided in a temporary station next to the service desk. Minor noise disturbances are expected.

Additionally, the "Yediot Aharonot" archive will not be accessible until Thursday Nov. 15th.

 Music Reading Room Opening Hours

Dear Readers,


Please note that throughout November research activity for high school students will be held in the Music Reading Room.

 
Changes in opening hours:


Nov. 7th (Wed) open at 12PM
Nov. 15th (Thurs) open at 1PM
Nov. 21st (Wed) open at 12PM
Nov. 26th (Mon) open at 3.30PM

 Increase in Loan Limit Policy

In order to improve loan services to our readers, as of October 3, 2018, the allotted number of books that can be borrowed will be increased. The updated borrowing policies are as follows:

 Operation of Upgraded Printing and Photo-Copying Services

We're pleased to announce that the Library has upgraded the printing and copy machine system with new and advanced technology.


We've positioned this new equipment specifically for the convenience of our visitors. In addition, the following new improvements have been put in place:


• Cloud printing through Mobile Print: You can send documents for printing from a laptop or any smartphone with email capabilities.
• We've reduced the price of printing and photo-copying to 0.20 agurot a unit (down from 0.25 agurot)
• You are now free to print documents from any and all the printers and photo-copiers spread throughout the library.
• We have installed automatic paper feeders in all the machines.
• You can now pay by credit card, as well as debit cards
• Your payment is processed immediately after use.

 ‭(Hidden)‬ Noise disturbances

Between October 14th-16th (Sunday-Tuesday) the exhibition in Ardon Hall gallery (2nd level) will be replaced. During this time the reading rooms around the gallery (Judaica & Islam, Music, Edelstein and Laor) might experience noise disturbances.

 ‭(Hidden)‬ The Central Archives for the History of the Jewish People has Been Launched

We are pleased to announce that the online catalog of the Central Archives for the History of the Jewish People has been launched through the catalog of the National Library.

 

Nearly 200,000 records from our collection are now available, and digital images of some of these materials are accessible online.

 

Not all of the archival records are available online; however we will continue uploading more of our collections in the coming months.​

 

Please note that the archives are not in the National Library building. The material cannot be ordered online but rather by contacting or visiting the Central Archives.

 Accessibility

In the continuing efforts to improve our service for people with disabilities, two software programs designed to aid the blind and visually impared people, have been recently bought and installed:

 

JAWS Screen Reader:

A professional software that reads information on the screen and transfers it to speech. JAWS program provides functional keyboard commands in order to simplify the use of common programs, document editing, webpage reading, and more.

 

ZoomText Software:

A screen enlarger for visually impaired people. The program enables the enhancement and enlargement of the whole screen or parts of it with the use of various tools.

 

These programs are installed on the following library computers:

Judaica and Israel Reading Room (Floor 1) - Computer no. 7
General Reading Room (Floor 1) - Computer no. 2
Reference Desk (Lobby) - Computer no. 5

 

Priority use of those computers will be given to visually impaired people.

 
 

The library offers you lockers for storage of your personal equipment.


 

The lockers are situated on the ground floor opposite the main reference desk.

Sizes and prices:
There are two locker sizes, 45cm and 60cm

For your information, the lockers are intended for storage of personal items, therefore please do not store in them the following items:
• Books or library collection items apart from those loaned from the circulation desk.
• Any kind of weapon
• Food and drink

 

The lockers have been supplied by the "Lockeron" company and they are their property.
"Lockeron" are responsible for use of the lockers including payment, contents and maintenance. The library holds no responsibility regarding payment or damage done due to use of the lockers.


The library has the authority to check the contents of the lockers when considered necessary.

Due to an upgrade in the Library's computer systems, Tuesday July 14th, 2015, between 20:00 and the following morning at 04:00, all the National Library's systems will be down: the website, the Merhav system, the catalog and access to digital items.

On Election Day, March 17th, 2015, the Library will be closed.

 ‭(Hidden)‬ Opening hours at the Department of Manuscripts

As of February 1st 2015, the opening hours at the Department of Manuscripts and the Institute of Microfilmed Hebrew Manuscripts are:

         Sunday-Thursday: 09:00-18:00

 

Library services are available until 15 minutes before closing.

 ‭(Hidden)‬ Jerusalem Marathon: The Library will be closed on March 21st

​Due to the Jerusalem Marathon and the closing of access routes to Givat Ram, the National Library will be closed to the public on Friday March 21st 2014.


Online services will be available as usual.
