Registration provides the user with an online library card. Using this card, readers can order books to the various reading rooms or the loan desk. To borrow books, readers must first complete a full registration at the Loan Desk located on the entry level of the Library.
Ordering an Item:
The reading room staff does not place online orders for users, though we will gladly provide assistance with the online ordering process. Each user can order up to 20 items at a time to a reading room or to the loan desk. The system blocks orders that exceed this number. Each physical volume counts as one item. For example, a book comprised of 3 volumes counts as 3 items. This order limit does not include books for home loan, or periodicals that were ordered using the online form.
Please remember to extend the loan period after 7 work days, otherwise the items will be returned to the stacks. If the item ordered was not found, the request will be saved in the system for a period of one month. During this time, Library staff will continue to try and locate the item, and at this period’s end you will receive notification of the status of the order.
Users can order an item currently in the possession of another reader. Notification will be sent to the requesting user when the item is returned. If you would like to place an order for rare books, you must do so by filling out a form at the loan desk, not through an online order.
If you would like to order an SR copy, meaning a preserved copy, you must do so with the help of a librarian.
Item Pick-up and Return:
Users may keep up to 20 items under their name in a reading room. The items are kept for a period of one week from the time they were last used. Users may extend this period up to 7 times, for a total of 70 work days.
Please pick up items at and return items to the reading room they were ordered to.
It is the users' responsibility to extend the loan period for items under their names.
Items that have not been used for more than a week will be returned to the stacks.
